Vegas Loop vs Monorail
Pick the Loop when:
- You’re moving around the convention center, where rides between LVCC stations are free.
- You’re going between the LVCC and Resorts World, Encore, Fontainebleau, Sahara or Westgate.
- You’re heading to the airport from a Loop station (limited availability; see the airport steps).
- You want a short, almost-private ride. Groups of 3+ are guaranteed their own car.
Pick the Monorail when:
- You’re going to center or south Strip resorts (Harrah’s/LINQ, Flamingo/Caesars, Horseshoe/Paris, MGM Grand), which the Loop doesn’t serve yet.
- It’s after 9 PM, when most Loop stations have closed and the Monorail runs until midnight–3 AM.
- It’s Grand Prix week: the Monorail says it runs 24/7 from Nov 17 at 7 AM to Nov 23 at 3 AM (see our F1 guide).
- You need step-free stations: the Monorail says every station has elevators.
Combine them: Westgate and the LVCC have both a Loop station and a Monorail stop, so you can transfer.
Vegas Loop vs Uber
Pick the Loop when both ends are Loop stations. You skip surface traffic and convention-day pickup lines.
Pick Uber, Lyft or a taxi when:
- Your hotel or restaurant isn’t on the Loop (most of the Strip isn’t yet).
- You have a lot of luggage. Loop bags must fit in the trunk, the frunk or at your feet.
- It’s late at night and Loop stations are closed.
- You’re going somewhere the Loop doesn’t reach, like downtown, Allegiant Stadium or off-Strip neighborhoods (planned for the Loop, but not open). See what’s coming next.
Robotaxis are another option for some trips: see Zoox and Waymo in Las Vegas.
Common trips: what we’d pick
- Convention day, hall to hall: the Loop (free between LVCC stations).
- LVCC to Resorts World or Fontainebleau for lunch: the Loop.
- LVCC to the LINQ, Paris or MGM Grand: the Monorail, since those resorts are on its line and not on the Loop.
- Airport to a Loop hotel with a carry-on: the Loop, if airport service is running that day.
- Downtown, Allegiant Stadium or dinner off-Strip: rideshare or taxi for now.
- After 9 PM: the Monorail (until midnight–3 AM) or a rideshare.
Is the Vegas Loop worth it?
It depends on your trip. For LVCC conventions, yes: rides between halls are free, and The Boring Company says the Loop turns a 45-minute walk across campus into about 2 minutes. For trips between Loop resorts, fares started at $4.75 one way as quoted Oct 30, 2026 (check vegasloop.com). If your destination isn’t on the network, the Monorail or a rideshare will usually be more direct.
FAQ
Is the Vegas Loop faster than the Monorail?
For trips between Loop stations, Loop rides take about 2–8 minutes with little wait. But the two mostly serve different places. The Monorail covers center and south Strip resorts the Loop doesn’t reach yet.
Is the Vegas Loop cheaper than Uber?
It can be for one or two riders between Loop stations: resort trips from the LVCC were $4.75 one way as quoted Oct 30, 2026 (check vegasloop.com before you go). With 3 or more people, or lots of luggage, a single rideshare can make more sense. Compare prices in your app.
Can I use the Vegas Loop and the Monorail on the same trip?
Yes. Westgate and the convention center both have a Loop station and a Monorail stop, so you can ride the Loop to Resorts World or Fontainebleau and the Monorail down to the center Strip. You’ll need a separate ticket for each.
Does the Monorail go to the convention center?
Yes. The Monorail’s Boingo Station at the LVCC connects with the Loop there, and the Monorail also stops at Westgate.
